Topicswildfire management

Coimbra hosts the 10th International Conference on Forest Fire Research from 31 October to 6 November, organised by the ADAI research unit of the University of Coimbra with the city council. It is the biggest edition in 36 years, with more than 420 registered delegates from over 40 countries, plus about 370 on preceding training courses. Around 350 papers cover risk reduction, fire behaviour, artificial intelligence, aerial robotics and climate adaptation, alongside seven plenary talks. Field activities include a visit to ADAI's fire laboratory in Lousã and a study trip to the area burned in the 2025 Piódão fire, which covered roughly 65,000 hectares.
