Portimão water utility relaunches school environmental programme
EMARP, Portimão's municipal water and waste company, has relaunched its Environmental Education and Protection Programme (PEPA) for the 2026/2027 school year, offering activities to schools across the municipality. Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the programme covers water, sanitation, waste management, the circular economy and environmental citizenship through participatory games, experiments and debates for pupils from pre-school to secondary level. Topics include water's natural cycle, the water footprint of consumption, and the environmental impact of the textile industry. Last school year, PEPA ran 257 activities reaching 5,855 pupils.
