Hempcrete is hemp shiv mixed with a lime binder: not structural on its own, but a wall fill that insulates, regulates humidity and locks up carbon captured while the crop grew. It suits Portuguese conditions well, and hemp itself grows here with far less water than most fibre crops.
Cânhamor produces ECOblocos, a hemp-lime block system grown and manufactured in Portugal and certified as carbon-negative. That certification is what moves hemp from an owner-builder experiment to something an architect can specify.
The material is still niche and the trained labour pool is small. See the natural materials and eco-building techniques focuses for the people working with it. Dated activities from these projects are listed in our events calendar.
