Algarve municipalities exceed EU water-loss reduction targets

The AMAL intermunicipal community said Algarve municipalities have surpassed the water-loss reduction targets set under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Between 2021 and 2026, over €40 million was invested in renovating public water supply networks, rehabilitating more than 160km of pipes against a 125km target, and saving an estimated 2.15 million cubic metres of water, above the 2 million goal. The effort will continue under the ALGARVE 2030 regional programme, with a further €42.5 million in EU funding secured for water supply, wastewater treatment, saltwater intrusion prevention, water reuse and network digitalisation.
