Alto Alentejo launches shared e-bike scheme across nine towns

The Alto Alentejo intermunicipal community has published regulations for CICLAA, a shared electric bicycle system, in Portugal's official gazette, launching a pilot phase across nine of the 15 municipalities in Portalegre district. The scheme, part of a sustainable urban mobility plan and the TRANSCOM_EUROACE project, starts with 36 e-bikes at docking stations in Sousel, Fronteira, Ponte de Sor, Arronches, Campo Maior, Alter do Chão, Crato, Marvão and Gavião. Users must be over 16, live or work in the district, and register via a mobile app. Rule-breakers face fines of 250 to 1,500 euros, while users are covered by personal accident insurance.
