Portugal's environment agency, the APA, will support Faro city council in drawing up a flood and inundation prevention plan, including a bid for European funding under the Sustentável 2030 programme. A second agreement with the Algarve intermunicipal body AMAL, involving universities, will study technologies and sites for treating the region's urban waste. The Algarve produces about 436,000 tonnes a year, roughly 85% of it landfilled. Environment Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho will ratify both protocols on 30 October. Faro and FAGAR will also present the city's priority stormwater drainage project on 23 October.
