ZERO – Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável

ZERO – Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável is a non-profit environmental non-governmental organisation. It was founded at the end of 2015 by around a hundred people committed to promoting sustainable development in Portugal. Its mission is to intervene proactively in Portuguese society in defence of sustainability, in the conviction that only a balance between the environment, society and the economy makes it possible to build a more cohesive world that respects the planet's limits. This mission translates into five ambitions: zero fossil fuels, zero pollution, zero waste of resources, zero destruction of ecosystems and biodiversity, and zero social and economic inequality. ZERO engages with public policy, takes part in public consultations, publishes studies and technical reports, and runs campaigns and awareness-raising initiatives. It also works with companies on corporate sustainability programmes. Its areas of work include energy and climate, mobility, air quality and noise, waste and the circular economy, water, agriculture and nature conservation. Headquartered in Lisbon, ZERO is a member of several European networks of environmental organisations and cooperates with national and international partners to broaden its impact. It has a regular presence in the media and mobilises the public through social media, podcasts, petitions and events.
