Caminha burns 14 hectares in Argela to cut wildfire risk

Topicswildfire prevention

A controlled burn covered roughly 14 hectares in the parish of Argela, in Caminha, as part of rural wildfire prevention. The municipality ran the operation with the national forest and nature agency ICNF, under the controlled-burning plan approved for the area. It aims to help build a patchwork of fuel breaks linked to the primary forest-defence network, interrupting the continuous vegetation that lets flames spread. Volunteer fire brigades from Caminha and Vila Praia de Âncora took part, alongside six forest sapper crews, and the exercise doubled as operational training.
