Lisbon's new 16E tram line opens to public consultation

Lisbon's Carris has submitted the Environmental Impact Study for the new 16E tram line, linking Terreiro do Paço to Parque Tejo over roughly 11 kilometres and 17 stops, for public consultation until 30 September. The study assessed a reference route plus four alternatives, one of which would run along Avenida Dom João II, all deemed technically and environmentally viable. The project extends the existing 15E line and involves rebuilding Praça de Santa Apolónia. It requires an investment of 160 million euros with EU co-financing, and is projected to cut 4,800 vehicle trips and 124,000 tonnes of CO2 daily.
