FAO praises Portugal's veterinary e-prescription system as best practice

Portugal's Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary Affairs (DGAV) received international recognition from the FAO for its National Veterinary Electronic Prescription System (PEMV), praised as good practice under the One Health approach. Since 2022 the system has processed over 3 million prescriptions covering more than 200 million treated animals. Its use has strengthened monitoring of veterinary medicines and contributed to a 25% drop in antimicrobial sales between 2021 and 2024. The award was presented at the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems, held in Rome.
