Farmers' body demands nationwide support for wine sector crisis

The Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal (CAP) welcomed government support announced for the Douro wine region but demanded it be extended nationwide, warning other producing regions face the same crisis. CAP says the Portuguese market is being undermined by bulk Spanish wine imports sold at prices domestic producers cannot match, often without proper origin controls. It also noted Spain gives its producers subsidies for energy and fertilisers far exceeding Portuguese support. CAP has repeatedly proposed structural, nationwide measures to the government and is calling for stricter customs checks and greater funding to promote Portuguese wine exports abroad.
