French vet student joins Portugal's black vulture conservation project

Jade Gava, a veterinary medicine student from the École Nationale Vétérinaire de Toulouse, is completing her second of three research stays in Portugal with the LPN, as part of the LIFE Aegypius Return project for black vulture conservation. She has taken part in capture and tagging activities, clinical exams, and the analysis of regurgitated pellets and nest remains to study the species' diet. Her research, following a One Health approach, also aims to inform a new sanitary control system for feeding areas used by scavenger birds, linking wildlife health, animal husbandry and public health.
