Funchal marine station opens season with seabird night-flight talk

The Marine Biology Station of Funchal will hold its first Open Night of the year on Friday, themed 'Petrels by Night'. A guided tour starts at 20:00, followed at 21:30 by a talk on the nocturnal life of Madeira's seabirds, illustrated with images and videos by Belgian wildlife photographer Bart Vercruysse. Over 14 years he has photographed 25 seabird species of the Western Palearctic in night flight; this is his fifth visit to Madeira, aiming to capture the still-missing Zino's petrel. The tour is bilingual (Portuguese and English); the talk will be in English.
