Gondomar introduces fines of up to €5,000 for breaking waste rules

Topicswaste prevention

Gondomar council is bringing in a new regulation on household waste disposal and collection, taking effect on 9 November. Individuals face fines that generally run from €75 to €5,000, while companies and other legal entities can be fined up to €10,000. Offences include putting waste in the wrong bin, ignoring sorting rules, dumping furniture or bulky items, and leaving garden or construction waste in the wrong place. The rules replace municipal ones dating from 1999 and tighten requirements on collection times and separation, with both nearby collection points and door-to-door pickup planned.
