Loulé council rejects new waste incineration and demands answers on landfill and desalination plant

Topicswaste-to-energy

Loulé's municipal council has told the environment minister it opposes any significant increase in waste incineration or co-incineration at the CIMPOR cement plant, arguing the municipality is being asked to carry the region's burdens. It wants to know who is promoting such plans and calls for independent oversight of the Sotavento landfill at Salir. It does not oppose the Albufeira desalination plant, costing €108 million, but seeks guarantees for the Quarteira coast. The mayor has requested an urgent meeting and a regional plan focused on reduction and recycling.
