LPN training walk links geology, biodiversity and heritage at Lexim

On 18 July, the Liga para a Proteção da Natureza (LPN), supported by EPAL, ran a training walk from Cheleiros to Aldeia da Mata Pequena and the Penedo do Lexim geosite. Led by geologist João Mata and another LPN instructor, participants studied the region's volcanic geology, riparian ecosystems, lichen colonisation and the Calcolithic fortified settlement atop the ancient volcanic plug, alongside Cheleiros's medieval history and the restored Aldeia da Mata Pequena hamlet. The gamified, field-based approach aimed to give educators tools for interdisciplinary teaching linking geology, biology, history and environmental education.
