Madeira Socialists demand answers on Porto Santo beach sand and dune works

Topicsdesertification

The Socialist Party in Madeira has filed a request in the regional parliament for clarification from the tourism and environment secretary about dredging, sand replenishment and dune reconstruction on Porto Santo beach. The party backs the ecological aims of the 'Life Dunas' and 'Praia Sustentável' projects but objects to the planning, the timing and the lack of public information. It asks why the harbour was not dredged for nearly a decade after 2017/2018, why sand is being placed on dry beach rather than underwater, and why litter was not screened out first. It also questions the delay in the dune project.
