Man dies after wild boar collision causes fatal crash in Cuba, Alentejo

A man died and his son was seriously injured after their car hit a wild boar on the EN387, in Faro do Alentejo, Cuba, early yesterday morning. The vehicle left the road, struck a tree and caught fire; the son escaped but the father was trapped inside and burned to death. The road was closed for hours during rescue and investigation work. The crash highlights a growing problem: Infraestruturas de Portugal recorded over 140 wildlife collisions in 2025 alone, most involving boars, while nationwide estimates suggest annual collisions may now exceed a thousand. Boar populations also cause over eight million euros in yearly maize crop damage.
