Marine science centre MARE holds annual meeting in Setúbal for the first time
Around 180 researchers gathered at the Polytechnic University of Setúbal on 8 and 9 October for the annual meeting of MARE, the marine and environmental sciences centre, which has about 700 members across eight regional units. It was the first time the university hosted the event since joining the consortium. Sessions covered the Sado estuary, with the nature conservation agency ICNF, and the national nature restoration plan. Director Pedro Raposo de Almeida named aquaculture, affordable technologies and scientific advice for fisheries management as priorities. He said he was extremely worried about 2027 funding and suggested more services for businesses as an additional source of income.
