New 410,000-litre water tank installed at Soeirinho to help fight wildfires
The village of Soeirinho, in the municipality of Pampilhosa da Serra, now has a three-metre-high water tank holding 410,000 litres. It is meant to support rural firefighting and make it easier to resupply crews on the ground, including aerial units. The tank was provided by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) and sits on land lent by the local commons association. It is one of 19 tanks planned for the Centre region under a project funded by the Secretary of State for Forests through the ICNF.
