Topicswildfire prevention

The nature and forests agency ICNF has handed new tractors to 11 councils in the Alto Alentejo: Arronches, Avis, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Elvas, Fronteira, Gavião, Monforte, Nisa, Portalegre and Sousel. The machines are meant for clearing and maintaining fuel-management strips, adding to the equipment local authorities can use against rural fires. The handover took place in Arronches, led by Secretary of State for Forests Rui Ladeira, and loan contracts between ICNF and each council were signed on the day. The tractors are paid for by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, which foresees 150 tractors nationwide for about €27.5 million.
