The Agriculture and Sea Ministry has launched a €3 million call under the CAP Strategic Plan for emergency stabilisation of areas hit by large rural fires in 2026. It is the fifth round of the forest-recovery measure and covers the first batch of major fires, with funding based on costs in the nature and forests institute's reports. Applications run from 16 October to 16 December 2026 via a simplified form, as a non-repayable grant. A second call is planned for the remaining fires. The 84 large fires burned 61,048 hectares, about 82% of the total burned area, with the largest in Vouzela and Valpaços.
