Tondela to start post-fire recovery works by end of September

Tondela's council says emergency stabilisation works on land burned by July's wildfire should begin by the end of September and cost around 177,000 euros, running until June 2027. The works, based on an ICNF report, target secondary waterways, culverts crossing roads and forest tracks, and fuel management strips, aiming to reduce erosion and material runoff after vegetation loss. The fire, which started on 2 July in Vouzela and was contained on 5 July, burned 1,500 hectares in the Tondela parish of São João do Monte e Mosteirinho, also affecting Vouzela, Oliveira de Frades and Águeda. The council is contracting service providers and also working with a University of Aveiro researcher on measures to reduce the fire's impact.
