Parliament recommends an environmental and health observatory for the Óbidos Lagoon
Parliament has recommended that the Government set up an observatory to track the environmental and health condition of the Óbidos Lagoon, according to a resolution published in the Diário da República. The body would monitor water quality, sediments, silting, habitats and species every day, and draw in data on shellfish, harmful phytoplankton, biotoxins and contaminants. It would gradually adopt sensors, measuring stations and early-warning systems, and put its data on a public online platform. The municipalities of Caldas da Rainha and Óbidos would run it jointly, alongside national agencies, with quarterly and annual reports. Funding could come from the Environmental Fund, the state budget and European funds.
