Petition against nightly street lighting cuts hits 1,000 signatures

A petition demanding an end to the nightly switch-off of street lighting in Viana do Castelo has gathered over 1,000 signatures and was formally delivered to the municipal council. The lighting cut, applied between 3am and 5am across all parishes, is part of the Municipal Energy Efficiency Plan in force since 2022. Organiser Ricardo Luís has requested a meeting with the mayor to discuss the measure and propose alternatives, such as cutting festive lighting instead. The council confirmed receiving the petition and said a meeting between the mayor and the organiser will be scheduled.
