Ponto Verde recycling programme returns to beaches this summer

The Academia Ponto Verde, an environmental education initiative run by Sociedade Ponto Verde, returns until 31 July to 30 beaches and pools across mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira, its largest edition so far. Children are taught to sort packaging waste through games, storytelling and a new team activity called Gincana. Organisers expect to reach over five thousand children, building on a school-year programme that already surpassed 37,500 students. The initiative receives institutional backing from Portugal's environment agency and regional bodies in the Azores and Madeira, and is framed as support for the national goal of collecting 65% of packaging placed on the market this year.
