Portimão council starts process to regulate shared e-scooters and bikes

Portimão's municipal council approved the start of a procedure to regulate shared micromobility services, such as e-scooters and bikes, in the municipality. The proposal, put forward by PSD/CDS-PP/IL councillors, passed with support from PS and one Chega councillor, while two Chega councillors voted against. It does not yet set rules but mandates a technical diagnosis, assessment of parking and circulation spots, and consultation with the water and waste company EMARP, police, operators, parishes and disability associations. The initiative ties into Portimão's 2024-2034 sustainable urban mobility plan and aims to balance innovation with pedestrian safety and accessibility.
