Porto cuts emissions 18% since 2019, targets 85% by 2030

Porto has cut greenhouse gas emissions by about 18% compared with 2019, reaching roughly 771,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2024, the lowest annual figure since then, according to the city's Climate Pact. The municipality credits the national electricity system's evolution and energy efficiency measures, and now aims for an 85% cut by 2030, well beyond the EU's 2050 neutrality goal. Transport and building energy use remain the largest sources, together accounting for over 90% of emissions. Meeting the target requires an estimated €2.17 billion in investment by 2030, combining public and private funding.
