Portugal completes €168m battery recycling and storage programme

Portugal has concluded the NGS – New Generation Storage programme, a €168.14 million project under the Recovery and Resilience Plan led by Grupo DST, aimed at strengthening the country's battery and energy storage value chain. The initiative involved 48 companies and scientific bodies and produced 21 new products, processes and services, plus three industrial production units. Among the results is B. Again, now the only lithium battery recycling plant in Western Europe, which extracts minerals from used batteries for reuse. Officials called for the momentum to continue, urging remaining funds to help bring near-market products to commercialisation.
