Portugal extends 10-cent-per-litre subsidy for agricultural diesel

Portugal's government has extended a subsidy of 10 cents per litre on coloured and marked diesel used in agriculture and forestry until 31 December 2026. The support, which had run until 30 June, is being restored amid a roughly 40% rise in agricultural diesel prices over the past six months. Fuel is a major cost for farms, powering tractors and machinery essential to daily operations. The measure aims to ease pressure on production costs, with farming group AJAP welcoming steps that protect farmers' income and the competitiveness of national agricultural production.
