Portugal launches €110m credit line for grape payments

The Portuguese government has approved a €110 million treasury credit line to help cooperatives and wine processing companies pay grape growers for the 2025 and 2026 harvests. The scheme also allows restructuring of debts taken under a similar mechanism created in 2024, with interest subsidies of up to 75%. Access requires beneficiaries not to have imported wine from other countries in recent harvests. The measure responds to slowing wine consumption, sales difficulties and high stock levels that have strained processors' finances, with the government stressing the priority of paying growers promptly and fairly.
