Portugal opens public consultation on renewable energy priority zones

Portugal's government launched a public consultation on 17 June for the Green Map, a tool linked to Renewable Energy Acceleration Zones designed to identify territory best suited for renewable projects and simplify licensing. Developed by an independent team led by Maria do Rosário Partidário, it applies criteria such as environmental sensitivity, energy potential, land planning and grid proximity. The scheme stems from the EU's RED III directive and is part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. These zones do not exclude projects elsewhere, but aim to steer investment towards less sensitive areas. The consultation runs on participa.pt.
