Portugal funds 18 protected-area co-management projects with €3 million

Portugal's Climate Agency (ApC) has approved €3 million in funding for 18 projects aimed at strengthening co-management of protected natural areas across the country. Of 29 applications submitted, 27 were deemed eligible, with 15 receiving full funding and three partial support. The initiatives, run through partnerships between municipalities, development associations and NGOs, cover biodiversity conservation, natural heritage recovery, nature tourism and environmental education. Recipients range from the Companhia das Lezírias and Portalegre council to associations working in the Estrela Geopark, Peneda-Gerês and Douro Superior. Environment Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho said the funding reflects the need for close cooperation between the state, local authorities and communities in protecting these areas.
