Portugal submits nature restoration plan with 386 measures to EU

Portugal has submitted its draft National Nature Restoration Plan to the European Commission, ahead of the deadline, fulfilling an EU requirement to restore at least 20% of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030. Coordinated by the ICNF with input from over 200 researchers and a public consultation that drew 184 contributions, the plan sets out 386 measures covering ecosystems from forests to rivers and cities. Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho called for it to become a genuine national movement. Brussels now has six months to review the proposal, with a final version due by August 2027.
