Portugal to relaunch Floresta Ativa forestry support scheme

Portugal's Secretary of State for Forests, Rui Ladeira, announced the Floresta Ativa programme will reopen for applications within days, backed by four million euros to support forest management and wildfire prevention. Landowners can apply individually or jointly for around 6,300 hectares, receiving 650 euros per hectare, via a simplified process on the ICNF platform requiring a georeferenced photo and minimal paperwork. Eucalyptus plantations will now also qualify, with differentiated support values reflecting different types of intervention. The government said it would try to top up funding if the initial amount runs out.
