Public consultation opens on blue carbon method for seagrass restoration in Portugal
A public consultation began on 23 October on a proposed methodology for restoring and conserving seagrass meadows in mainland Portugal under the Voluntary Carbon Market. It was put forward by airport operator ANA with scientific partners, including the University of the Algarve's marine sciences centre. The technical committee judged it innovative and a way to draw private funding to these ecosystems. Projects showing extra benefits for biodiversity could earn Carbon+ credits. Comments can be submitted on the Participa portal until 22 November 2026. The market itself has two approved projects and 977 future credits issued after its first year.
