Recycling schools programme targets 50,000 pupils this year

Education & Eco-tourism14 September 2026

Academia Ponto Verde, an educational initiative run by Sociedade Ponto Verde, returns to Portuguese schools for 2026/2027 with a new visual identity and the slogan "Vamos aprender a separar juntos?". Sessions for 2nd and 3rd cycle pupils, held nationwide including the Azores and Madeira, aim to reach over 50,000 students, up 32% on last year's record edition. The programme teaches the 3 R's and correct packaging disposal. Organisers link the initiative's relevance to weak recycling growth, warning that just 1% growth in early 2026 threatens Portugal's 65% target for this year and 70% goal for 2030.
