Repsol and Sylvestris register new forest carbon project in Monchique

Fundação Repsol and Grupo Sylvestris have registered a new afforestation and carbon-sequestration project at Barranco de Madriros, in Monchique, on Portugal's Voluntary Carbon Market platform. Covering 13.28 hectares, the project aims to remove about 1,911 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 40 years, using pine and strawberry trees. It is the second project from this partnership registered under Portugal's new legal framework for voluntary carbon markets. Beyond carbon capture, the initiative aims to combat soil erosion, reduce wildfire risk and support biodiversity and local economic activity in a vulnerable rural area.
