River group demands binding targets in Portugal's nature restoration plan

The proTEJO movement submitted its position to the public consultation on Portugal's National Nature Restoration Plan, demanding binding targets, more funding and consistency between river restoration goals and new infrastructure projects in the Tagus basin. It criticised the €77.6 million allocated for removing artificial barriers to river connectivity as insufficient given the 15,584 structures identified nationally. proTEJO also opposed new dam projects worth over €5 billion planned for the Tagus, including the Alvito dam, warning they contradict restoration commitments and threaten migratory fish species and protected wetland areas.
