Seven Algarve councils seek EU funds for social housing

Seven municipalities in the Algarve — Lagos, Vila do Bispo, Portimão, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Castro Marim and Alcoutim — have submitted 11 applications to the Algarve 2030 regional programme for social housing construction, rehabilitation or conversion projects, totalling over €105 million in investment. The scheme, backed by €28 million from the European Regional Development Fund, offers co-financing of 30% to 70% and requires projects to meet environmental sustainability and energy efficiency standards. Applications remain open until 30 March 2027. Algarve 2030 also plans a further €32 million for affordable housing, student accommodation and staff housing.
