Smart Waste Portugal launches self-assessment tool for ecodesign

Smart Waste Portugal has created the Ecodesign Readiness Levels (ERL), a self-assessment methodology to help small and medium-sized enterprises gauge how far they integrate ecodesign criteria into product development. Developed under the TransformEC project, it aims to prepare companies for the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, in force since 2024. Inspired by Technology Readiness Levels, ERL is a diagnostic and planning tool, not a certification system. It comes alongside a companion study on the state of ecodesign adoption among Portuguese SMEs, trends and regulatory implications.
