Tejo river group demands limits on Abrantes data centre water use

The proTEJO movement has called for legal limits on water and energy consumption by two planned data centres in Abrantes, Hyperion and EDC One, and demanded a joint environmental impact study covering both projects. It estimates combined water use could reach up to 22.2 million litres daily, at a time when the Tagus basin faces worsening water scarcity between 2028 and 2033. The group also wants cooling technologies disclosed, binding efficiency limits, public performance data, and public consultation sessions, while acknowledging the value of digital investment for the region.
