Young Europeans hold beach clean-up in Madeira against fast fashion

More than 40 young people from Madeira, mainland Portugal, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Romania took part in a coastal clean-up at Praia Formosa in Funchal on 27 June, raising awareness of the environmental impact of fast fashion and the particular waste-management challenges faced by island regions. The event, organised by My Madeira Island with support from the Regional Directorate for Environment and Sea, is part of an EU Erasmus+ funded project. Alongside the clean-up, participants held an upcycling workshop and removed invasive species from My Madeira Forest to help prevent wildfires and protect endemic biodiversity.
