Volunteering & Social Impact

Where showing up makes the difference: REFOOD's meal-rescue shifts, Fruta Feia's food co-op, beach clean-ups with Brigada do Mar, and wildlife care at RIAS. Volunteers keep the work moving, and new hands are welcome.

Volunteering in Portugal

Conservation associations, farms, food co-ops and wildlife centres often depend on unpaid hours and take volunteers, and for several of them it is not a nice extra but the reason the work happens at all.

The commitment varies more than the subject does. RIAS needs regular shifts at its wildlife centre in Olhão. Quercus, MONTIS and VERDE run field days you can join once. Keela Permaculture Farm and Quinta do Vale da Páscoa host longer stays in exchange for work, and Brigada do Mar cleans coastline in short intensive campaigns.

Ask what is actually needed before offering; the honest answer is often less romantic and more useful than expected. Related focuses: community resilience and habitat restoration; dated volunteer days are on our events calendar.
