Portuguese packaging alliance launches Neopacks sustainability certification with independent audit

Topicssingle-use packagingenvironmental literacy

A verification and certification system called Neopacks was unveiled at the Logipack fair in Lisbon, created under the Embalagem do Futuro initiative led by Vangest of Marinha Grande. Companies first assess themselves, then draw up an improvement plan, and finally undergo an audit by SGS Portugal, all handled on a digital platform. The criteria cover environmental, social and governance topics, plus economic viability, and span plastic, paper, glass, metal, wood and ceramics. The scheme aims to answer retailers' demands for proof and consumer distrust of vague green claims, and is aligned with European sustainability reporting rules and the new packaging regulation.
