AJAP conference opens in Fátima with focus on farm risk

The AJAP 2026 Technical Conference began on 8 June in Fátima, bringing together specialists on agriculture and rural development. The opening session addressed agricultural insurance, with representatives of Swiss mutual Hage highlighting its growing importance amid extreme weather and unpredictable production conditions. Former environment minister Duarte Cordeiro spoke about the carbon market as an opportunity for Portuguese forestry, valuing carbon capture and creating new income for rural landowners. AJAP also reported a record of around 24,500 applications by young farmers nationwide, while flagging the need to strengthen technical support and speed up generational renewal in farming.
