Algarve body joins two EU wildfire-prevention projects

The Algarve intermunicipal community AMAL took part this month in two EU-backed initiatives on wildfire prevention and climate resilience. On 1 June, researchers visited the Monte da Vinha-Bordeira burnt area in Aljezur and Lagos under the EFHERA project, collecting soil samples to study post-fire erosion and calibrate risk models. On 3-4 June, AMAL attended the launch in Seville of CILUMES-Interopera, an Interreg POCTEP project worth over 14 million euros, which aims to improve cross-border wildfire response between Portugal and Spain through better coordination, training and new technology.
