Boticas camp against lithium mine expects 700-800 participants

The sixth Camp in Defence of Barroso will take place from Thursday to Monday in Covas do Barroso, Boticas, with organisers expecting 700 to 800 Portuguese and foreign participants, according to Nélson Gomes of the Unidos em Defesa de Covas do Barroso association. Registrations closed early due to demand. The event, which opposes Savannah Resources' planned lithium mine, includes talks, workshops, concerts, film screenings and a Saturday march through the village. The mine received a conditional favourable environmental impact assessment in 2023, with construction expected to start in 2027, though opponents argue the project brings no real benefit to Portugal.
