Cascais textile recycling pilot cuts CO2 by 3.4 tonnes

The (Re)Vestir Cascais pilot, run by Cascais Ambiente, has collected over a tonne of textiles and avoided an estimated 3.4 tonnes of CO2 emissions. About a tonne of the material was redirected for reuse, saving more than 5.6 million litres of water, roughly the annual consumption of 100 households. Residents use an app with QR-coded bags to track each item's journey, from reuse to recycling, with landfill only as a last resort. Funded through the European Climaborough programme, the scheme also runs sewing workshops and a points system redeemable at local shops, with expansion plans under review.
