Century-old tulip tree in Vieira do Minho declared of public interest

A Liriodendron tulipifera tree over 100 years old, growing in the garden of the Casa da Cultura in Vieira do Minho, has been classified of public interest by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests. The order, dated 5 August, cites the tree's exceptional size, including a 6.40-metre trunk base perimeter and 30.67-metre height, and its well-balanced, undamaged natural form. The classification, requested by the municipality, establishes a 25-metre protection zone around the tree's base, banning any intervention that could damage it.
